OSHA OUTREACH SAFETY
TRAINING PROGRAM
Most of the OSHA standards require the Employer to train their Employees in
the Safety and Health aspects of their jobs.
These requirements reflect OSHA's belief that training is an essential part
of every employer's Safety and Health program for protecting workers from injuries
and illnesses.
Training in the proper performance of a job is time and money well spent, and
the employer might regard it as an investment rather than expense. An effective
program of Safety and Health training for workers can result in fewer injuries
and illnesses and better morale.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) outreach training program
is a voluntary training program through which OSHA authorizes trainers to teach
Construction and General Industry Occupational Safety and Health Standards.
This outreach effort aimed at promoting workplace safety and health , has been
authorizing trainers since 1971.
The outreach program has grown rapidly in recent years. As recently as 1990
there were only 12000 students cards were issued. In 2005 more than 376,000
student cards were issued by OSHA and distributed.
Construction and General Industry outreach trainers are authorized by OSHA to
conduct 10- and 30- hour Construction and General Industry courses and are eligible
to receive OSHA course completion cards to distribute to their students.
Upon completing successfully the 10- 0r 30- hour courses , students will receive a completion cards issued from OSHA - USA.
